Post Psychiatry OSCE

As always, OSCE exam is something that i dread of. Unlike normal written exam, OSCE does not give you much time to have a thought on the answer. Of course, u can make the examiner to wait for it but i think it would be very awkward to have them anticipating for your answer in silence.

So as for today, i was scheduled to be with Dr Fauzi, a consultant child psychiatrist. Prior to the exam, i was really hoping to get a straight-forward case of a female patient since it would make it easier for me to do physical examination. In addition to that, i was also still not familiar clerking a male pyshicatric patient. I have heard a lot about how my friends got involved with peculiar events especially clerking with the opposite sex. Hence, this kinda put me off.

So, initially God was really testing me since He gave me a male patient whom i noticed exhibiting an abnormal movement. I knew from the start that this guy would've prob had issues with substance abuse. Unfortunately, i didnt think it was that of alcohol; topic that i read more the night before. Hence, i had difficulty in elliciting his history.

Fortunately, my patient got fed-up and decided to leave. Hence, i was replaced with a female patient. WHHEEEEE! so, her case was Relapse Schizophrenia. Another WHEEEEEE!

By the end of this exam, i know i should've always trusted my instinct and prepare myself better for any exam. Sometimes, i believe i have extra sense that can give me some insight whether i would do bad or good in it. As for today, i had a little of confidence in me. Glad things worked out in the end!
